UTICA, N.Y.—On Friday Utica Blue Sox head coach Doug Delett announced the addition of Will Tucker to the coaching staff for the 2022 season. The addition of Tucker is the second coaching staff announcement after Chris Amaya was introduced last month.

Tucker is a native of Lynbrook, NY in the NYC Metro area and graduated in 2016 from Lynbrook High School in 2016. During his time at Lynbrook, Tucker was a three-year varsity starter for the Owls as well as a captain during his playing career.

After his high school days Tucker decided to head south and attended college at University of Tampa. Although he did not suit up and play for Tampa, he still played a large role for what is one of the best programs in NCAA DII.

Tucker served as a student assistant coach from 2017-2019 for the Spartans with the 2019 season culminating in a national championship at the NCAA DII College World Series. Following the championship season Tucker switched into a role as the Director of Baseball Operations. He served in this capacity for the program until graduating in 2020 with a degree in Sports Management.

During Tucker’s time with the University of Tampa the team never lost more than 15 games in a season and made an NCAA Tournament appearance in all years except for 2020 since it was cut short due to COVID-19.

After graduating Tucker became Director of Baseball Operations & Assistant Director of Player Development at Combine Academy in Lincolnton, NC. Helping upstart a new post-grad and high school baseball program, he was able to bring the team from being unranked in the state to in the top-35 nationally in the program’s first high school season.

Before coming to Utica this summer, Tucker will serve his first year as an assistant coach at Monroe College in the Bronx. His role involves working primarily with the hitters and infielders.

When asked about the chance to come to the Utica this summer, he said, “I’m really excited to join Coach Delett and the Utica Blue Sox staff this summer. The Blue Sox are a first-class organization, with an extensive baseball history, that made the choice to come on board this summer an easy one.”
