THE UTICA BLUE SOX PROMOTE PITCHING COACH DOUG DELETT AS THEIR NEW HEAD COACH FOR THE 2019 SEASON
UTICA, NY – After failing to make the playoffs, the Utica Blue Sox decided to make big changes and announce pitching coach and former Utica Blue Sox player, Doug Delett as their new head coach.
General Manager George Deak remarked on the process that led to the move to make Doug Delett the new head coach, “This has been my plan for a hand full of years now to make Doug head coach. I felt the coaching staff was overwhelmed with the level of play we’re at so it was time to go with a more seasoned and player-friendly coaching staff and front office.”
As a pitching coach, Delett helped lead the Utica Blue Sox to a division title in 2016 making it all the way to championship series before being defeated by the Amsterdam Mohawks. The following year Coach Delett was named Assistant Head Coach before being moved back to a pitching coach in 2018. Coach Delett also has some pro baseball background playing Class-A ball as well as playing history with the Utica Blue Sox.
Coach Delett is excited about this opportunity and is ready to assume his role as new head coach. “I’m going to do a lot of things different from the past. Our kids come here to try to get better for their colleges and that is my number one priority. My job is to make sure that these kids walk out of the program better than they came in.”
Returning outfielder LJ Bryant who currently plays at Andrew College in Georgia was pleased about the big news. “I completely love Coach Doug, he’s an awesome guy, and his mentality about summer ball is different from other coaches ‘just winning’ mentality. He tries to get guys to progress and get better and not just focus on winning.”
