UTICA, NY–The Utica Blue Sox announced this week that Mounds View, MN and St. Thomas RHP Jack Zupfer is the newest addition to the Blue Sox roster for 2022.

Zupfer didn’t always think he would turn out to be a pitcher, as he also played shortstop in high school. However, he thought “pitching would give me the best chance to continue playing at the next level.” As well, interestingly enough, despite being halfway across the United States from Utica, Zupfer does have a connection with the area, as his grandfather grew up in Upstate New York. However, he is like most of Utica’s incoming players in that he really has no outside experience or knowledge concerning the area aside from that.

Zupfer also mentioned how excited he was for the upcoming season, saying he is looking forward to utilizing Utica’s “beautiful facilities” and “to hopefully win some baseball games.” Zupfer said he fell in love with baseball at a very early age, so he will cherish any opportunity he gets to keep playing. Zupfer said, in terms of his play, he “doesn’t get too emotional” and “plays a smart game.” In terms of what the fans can expect from him this summer, he assured them that he will “show up and work hard every day, and be excited to be there.”
