UTICA, NY – The Utica Blue Sox have named Cooper Deck the Director of Communications for the 2019 season. This upcoming season, he will be the voice of the Utica Blue Sox, broadcasting every home game at Donovan Stadium at Murnane Field on Blue Sox TV.

He will also spearhead public relations efforts, which include running social media accounts, producing feature content on Blue Sox players and serving as the liaison between the community and the Utica Blue Sox organization.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the Blue Sox organization,” Deck said. “This year is extremely exciting, with the Blue Sox showcasing what I believe is the best roster in franchise history on paper heading into the season. The club is packed with Division I players and even one All-American in Kennesaw State’s Tyler Simon.”

Deck graduated from New Hartford Central High School in 2016, and then attended Penn State University where he will graduate in May with a degree in broadcast journalism, a minor in Spanish and a sports journalism certificate from the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism.

He also served as the reporter for The Cardinal Nation last summer covering the St. Louis Cardinals’ minor league affilaite State College Spikes, where he wrote weekly reports and feature content for this online publication that covers the Cardinals’ system from top to bottom. Additionally, he worked as the producer and play-by-play commentator for CommRadio (Penn State’s student-run radio station) in Spikes coverage during the 2018 season.

He has broadcast many other sports at Penn State as well, including basketball, hockey, baseball and softball in addition to serving as editor of the station for the last year. The 21-year-old also worked for The Daily Collegian as a beat writer and columnist covering Penn State sports news for a year and a half.
