UTICA, N.Y. – The Utica Blue Sox announced Saturday the signing of Chris Fernandez, a Redshirt Junior from Felician University where he is studying Criminal Justice. Fernandez is an outfielder from Boca Raton, Florida, where he attended Boca Raton Community High School.
Fernandez has been playing baseball for as long as he can remember. He began playing back when he was growing up in Cuba. Fernandez said, “Baseball was the country sport everyone would always be playing outside, but after moving to the states I got a chance to play with a real team in organized baseball, and I just fell in love with the game.”
Fernandez’s decision to come to Utica came after his coach initially recommended the Blue Sox organization to him. But after seeing on social media how dedicated the Utica fans are really made up his mind. Fernandez said “I loved seeing how many fans come to the games, I never really had that experience in high school or college.” The Blue Sox are extremely excited for Fernandez to join the club this summer.
