The Utica Blue Sox have named Joe Puccio Director of Communications for the 2021 season. Puccio will serve as the play-by-play broadcaster for all Blue Sox’ home games this upcoming summer, while also assisting in social media, marketing and public relations efforts for the organization as a whole. Puccio will be splitting the responsibilities of this role with Mercyhurst junior Jack Angelucci.
“I’m honored to be a part of the Blue Sox broadcasting team this year,” Puccio said. “Cooper [Deck], Jack [Angelucci] and I have been able to create some great sports media during our time at New Hartford [high school] and it’s only going to get better in Utica.”
Puccio is currently enrolled in Syracuse University’s prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications as a Broadcast Journalism major. Out of the classroom, Puccio is a web producer and Women’s Lacrosse beat reporter for CitrusTV and a sports desk member for WAER 88.3, Syracuse University’s campus radio station.
He recently interned with the Utica Comets in the communications department. Puccio also served as a broadcast intern for Utica City FC from August 2019 to November 2020.
Puccio is the first intern announcement of the 2021 season. He joins a team of young and passionate interns who will be able to showcase and finetune their skills within the sports industry throughout the year.
“Seeing what the Blue Sox have done over the last few years is astonishing,” Puccio said. “I am blessed to have an opportunity to work with this organization.”
Puccio and Angelucci led New Hartford Central Radio at New Hartford High School, a student-run radio station that provided live broadcasts for all Spartan sporting events.
Puccio is an 18-year-old originally from Rochester, New York. He graduated from New Hartford high school in 2019 and loves golfing, podcasts, gaming and hanging out with friends.
