UTICA, N.Y. – The Utica Blue Sox announced Tuesday the signing of Carson Applegate, a high school senior from Columbus, NJ, and a division 1 commit to the University of Kentucky. Applegate is both a shortstop and a pitcher at The Hun School of Princeton. Moving into college Applegate plans to study business while attending the University of Kentucky.
Applegate may still be in high school, but his talent is second to none. Last season Applegate was the prep player of the year, county pitcher of the year, county hitter of the year, and helped his school win the state championship for the fifth consecutive year.
Applegate began playing baseball at about 5 or 6 years old. Applegate said the game of baseball is ingrained into his family. He drew inspiration from his older brother who was also a ball player at Villanova University.
Life after college is very far away for a high school senior but moving into his freshman season at UK, Applegate is looking to make an impact as quick as he can. Applegate said his goals once getting to college are to be involved right away and hopefully get a few starts in his freshman season. He acknowledged that moving into a high level SEC program it is difficult for anyone especially to start their first year, but it is a challenge he is looking forward to.
Applegate chose Utica coming off a recommendation from his coach, as well as a few of his future teammates from his class who will be joining him in Utica this summer.
