In a thrilling match-up between the Saugerties Stallions and the Utica Blue Sox, the Stallions emerged victorious with a score of 5-4 last night.
Saugerties got off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. The Stallions continued to add onto their lead and made it 5-0 by the fourth inning. The Blue Sox slowly began to crawl back into the game after RBI hits from Damian Witty and Mike Benedetto to bring the game to a score of 5-4 headed into the ninth inning. Stallion pitcher Andrew Speranza proved to be too much for the Utica lineup as he came on for the save for Saugerties.
The Stallions’ Brandon Hot was a standout performer, driving in two runs with a double and a base hit. On the pitching side, Vince Fusco of the Stallions delivered a solid performance, allowing only one run in 4.2 innings of work.
The standout hitter tonight for the Blue Sox was Mike Benedetto. The centerfielder went 2-4 with an RBI. Charlie Collins delivered four innings of two hit and only one run ball in relief for Utica.
The Stallions remain perfect on the season and the Blue Sox fall to four and 2. Utica heads to Damaschke Field to take on the Oneonta Outlaws this Monday.
