Dutchmen hand Blue Sox Their Ninth Straight Loss
The Albany Dutchmen came out on top 7-5 in a close game with the Utica Blue
Sox at Donovan Stadium on Friday night. The Dutchmen outhit the Sox 11-8 and
led the entire game.
Albany grabbed an early 5-0 lead in the top of the third thanks to five hits in the
inning. The Sox would battle back adding one run in the third and three more in
the fifth to cut the Dutchmen lead to 5-4. However, the Dutchmen were able to
add two more the rest of the way, as the Sox were only able to add one and
the final ended up 7-5 in Albany’s favor. Utica has now lost nine games in a row
and two to Albany over the last three days.
Jared Tietgen (Rio Hondo College) took the loss only managing two and two-thirds
innings before exiting due to an injury. Tietgen allowed four runs on three hits and four walks.
Adam Elliot (Louisville) got the win, pitching three innings in relief allowing three runs on one hit and two
walks. J.D. Mundt (Louisville) was credited with the save pitching the bottom of
the ninth and shutting the Sox down in order to close out the game.
With the win, Albany improves to 7-2 on the season. The Dutchmen host Glens
Falls in a double header on Saturday, the first game is set at 3:00PM.
With the loss, Utica has now lost nine straight to fall to 3-9 on the season. The
Sox travel to Onondaga on Saturday for a 7:00PM game.
